Jamaal Charles Retires as a Chief

Former Pro Bowler to End Career in Kansas City

Former Pro Bowl running back Jamaal Charles is returning to Kansas City to retire as a Chief. Charles, who spent nine seasons with the Chiefs after being drafted in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft, signed a one-day contract with the team on Tuesday.

"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to come back to Kansas City and retire as a Chief," Charles said in a statement. "This city has always been special to me, and I'm excited to end my career where it started."

Charles was one of the most dynamic running backs in the NFL during his prime, earning four Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro selections. He led the NFL in rushing yards in 2010 and was named the NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2015 after returning from a torn ACL.

"Jamaal was a special player for us," Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said. "He was a great teammate, a great leader, and a great player. We're thrilled to have him back in Kansas City and to be able to honor his career."

Charles' retirement is a fitting end to a remarkable career. He leaves the game as one of the most beloved players in Chiefs history, and his legacy will live on in Kansas City for years to come.
